It is customary to celebrate Lhosar to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since &#8216;Lho&#8217; means year and &#8216;Saar&#8217; means change, the day of change of year is called &#8216;Tamu Lhosar&#8217;. The Gurung community celebrates Tamu Lhosar as the New Year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is said that the significance of this festival is due to the fact that the night of December 30 is the longest night and the following nights are getting shorter.
