Kathmandu: Newly elected office-bearers and central committee members of the Nepali Congress have taken the oath of office and secrecy following the party’s 15th General Convention.

Party president Gagan Kumar Thapa administered the oath at a special ceremony held at the party’s central office in Sanepa today. Thapa himself had taken the oath on 17 October.
Immediately after the ceremony, certificates of election were distributed to the newly elected central committee members.
The party’s 15th General Convention was held at Khula Manch in Kathmandu from 4 to 9 October. The convention elected Bishwo Prakash Sharma as senior vice-president, Dr Chandrakant Bhandari and engineer Madhu Acharya as open-category vice-presidents, Pushpa Bhusal as women’s vice-president, and Binod Chaudhary as inclusive vice-president.
Similarly, Pradip Paudel, Uday Shumsher Rana and Dr Dila Sangroula (Pant) were elected as the party’s three general secretaries. Eleven joint general secretaries were also elected from various representational clusters.
However, the Nepali Congress has withheld the oath-taking of four central committee members because cases involving them are pending before the court.
The newly elected central committee members Santosh Chalise, Binita Khadka, Mohan Basnet and Umesh Chandra Yadav were therefore unable to take the oath.
